TYPES OF BUILDING MATERIALS USED IN CONSTRUCTION

There are few natural building construction materials that have been used since ancient times. You need to know them for the better knowledge of taking inspiration and building something versatile which is sustainable as well as cheap. For this, there are a few natural materials that you need to look at. First, let's know what are natural building materials?

Natural Construction Materials

The natural materials used in construction, are those simple, that have not needed transformation, only use them creatively to generate living spaces.

Mud, stones, wood, branches of small plants, straw, etc were most used materials as basic construction materials. Using such natural building materials have played a very important in today's architecture and sustainability. It offers a practical solution to the enclosure of works acting as a visual barrier, or a roof, surface and for also restricting the passage of people and animals to the work area. It also serves as a barrier to dust and dirt.

Fabric

Fabric has always been part of the architecture and construction and today there are many cases where projects of architecture are in the fabric. Even the houses can be built with life-size fabrics.

You can also submerge the user inside a building constructed with fabrics. It is also said that the representation of real objects, such as furniture, rooms, and building can also be done with this type of material. It is also widely using in making acoustical panels for wall and ceiling with a combination of wood.

Mud and clay

Like other dense materials, the unique material mud and clay captures heat. In climatic zones where you notice differences of temperatures are wide, storing heat is necessary. Mud or clay saves energy and decreases the environmental pollution.

The mud practically does not produce environmental contamination with respect to any other material. Here talking about mud, includes that it can still be used in the construction area where you have a design made specially keeping in mind about the temperature and climate.

Rock

Now you can take rocks and build your house with it instead of the regular cement and concrete material. Also, you can find out that the clay and sand can be mixed with a rock to give it more stability.

The walls made of rock have thermal energy which can resist a good amount of heat. It also absorbs the heat and can spread it inside the room. Rock construction is beneficial because of its unique properties and characteristics.

Wood

Wood maintains the quality of a living organism even after it has been transformed from trees. Wood has also being used largely as a wall stud, floor joist in structure and also in the trusses of the roof of the building making. They provide enough strength and stability to the structure. In the wooden buildings, you can still smell the scent of the material, but there are also other related benefits

Wood, as a building material in buildings, may absorb odors better. By having a rough surface, vapors and even fumes can be collected by the wood, eliminating them more easily.

Bricks

They are ceramic pieces of rectangular shape and obtained by molding, drying and firing at high temperatures of a clayey paste. Bricks are products derived directly from Adobe (blocks of mud mixed with straw) and appeared when the firing began to apply to these blocks.

The bricks are used in construction mainly to lift walls, facades, and partitions. They are also used to raise walls or partitions. So it is much preferable to use it as solid exterior walls or facades for better structural stability. Nowadays for aesthetic purposes, people also use them as interior wall treatment by cladding it in form of tiles.

Blocks

The concrete blocks are prefabricated masonry, made with different mixtures of fine concrete or cement mortars. Like bricks, they tend to have prismatic shapes.

They serve to raise walls. They come out cheaper than brick, and can also be placed with iron rods (reinforced structure) to improve their stability. Being hollow, they weigh much less and are easier to handle.

Walls that are going to be visible without revoking, the blocks are not decorative and are not painted well. So you can also use some different painting material which will highlight the exposed walls of concrete block and make it look funkier.

Metal

Metal in buildings has now become highly preferred types of construction for the industrial, commercial and agricultural markets. Even in the construction of houses, which is currently a growing market for the construction of metal structures?

In particular, the construction of prefabricated metal structures, these are the best and most cost-effective solutions in all types of constructions whether industrial or civil. Because of its high resistance, it is used in most buildings, bridges, tunnels, and dams.

Glass

Glass is a trending material which is used both for aesthetics and supporting lightweight structure. Glass does not rot like wood, it does not rust like steel or dent like aluminum. It has enough stiffness and strength to withstand bumps and push-ups without modifying its properties.

It is one of the most common materials for construction, assemblies, moldings and parts from the commercial, residential, industry, military, automotive, liquid storage, medical prostheses, furniture and theatrical scenery among many others.

Ceramic

Ceramics in the construction of buildings is considered as a material that at the moment does not have substitutes. Its high resistance, easy cleaning, low maintenance, and its decorative value, make it never go out of style.

In the construction, it is present on floors, walls, stairs, ceilings, facades, swimming pools, gardens, among other uses. Like all materials, it has evolved with new technologies, achieving more durability and resistance.

Plastic

This material is widely used in flooring, ceiling, exterior walls and is included in much more construction area such as roads and bridges.

The industry of plastic is improving drastically and also it has emerged well in the construction field. There are many new solutions made as building material by using plastic. Most of them follow the criteria of integrity in structure, saving of energy and cost.

The main efficiency of this material is for the buildings in residential as well as the commercial sector. It can be used in roof, insulation, covering for walls, window, wooden material, and flooring.

Cement composites

Cement composite is a binding material that has adhesion and cohesion properties, which allow the union of mineral fragments with each other, forming a compact whole. It is considered the most important conglomerate at present.

It can be said that cement is considered one of the most important materials in construction, thanks to its conglomerating characteristics, thus being able to join parts of various materials and give them cohesion from various chemical modifications in mass. It should be noted that when mixed with water, sand, and gravel, concrete is obtained, a mixture of malleable and uniform type.
